MotoMummy's New Year Riding Resolutions

Kick starting the new year means that now is the time to get back on track when it comes to shifting priorities and reaching new goals. We’ve put together our list of New Years Riding Resolutions that are sure to help you become a better biker overall.

Plan a Trip Somewhere New

Being a motorcycle rider means that you crave adventure, so there is no better time than now to get out and ride to the places you’ve always wanted to go. Planning a trip can sometimes feel daunting and it is an easy task to put on the back burner. Considering costs, time, location, and all the other details can hold us back from making our dream experiences a reality. However, the reward of getting out to explore outweighs any of the time-consuming reasons you might tell yourself that you can’t. There is probably somewhere in the back of your mind that you’ve always want to visit. This is the year to plan your route, grab your motorcycle, and make it happen.

Meet Fellow Riders and go on Group Rides

Another useful goal you should try for the new year is making the effort to meet fellow riders. Getting more involved with a local or an online riding community has the potential to make your riding experiences more fun and meaningful. If you don’t already know anyone that rides then you can attend bike nights, join a motorcycle club, or simply find an online group. Being a part of a community of riders will allow you to learn more about riding, meet likeminded people and build meaningful connections with others.

Treat Yourself to New Gear or Bike Parts

This year, plan to get whatever it is that you’ve had your eye on to elevate your bike and riding adventures. Don’t be afraid to splurge a little and save up for those high-quality items on your wish list. If you want to upgrade your gear or shop around for new parts and accessories for your bike, MotoMummy is a great place to find what you are looking for.

Improve your Skills & Technique

There is always potential to become a better rider at every level of experience. If you’re a newbie, then make it a goal to get comfortable with your bike and practice the basic skill set that every biker needs. If you are more confident in your riding abilities and feel like you have good enough control of your two-wheeler, it’s still a good idea to keep practicing handling techniques so that safe reactions become even more instinct. Once you feel ready as a rider, this could also be the year to bring out your inner daredevil and improve your skills by signing up for a track day.

Bike Maintenance & Repair Techniques

Regularly maintaining the oil, air filter, chain, coolant, battery, and tires on your bike will make all the difference for your riding experiences. Implementing a regular maintenance routine will help you prevent issues in the future and extend the life of every part of your bike. Another useful skill to develop this year is your overall knowledge of basic repairs on your bike. These skills will come in handy if you ever get in a bind on a long or off-road trip.

Start a Regular Cleaning Routine for your Bike

It is a good habit to clean your bike on a regular basis so that it stays in good condition for the long haul. Ideally, you should clean your bike at least a couple of times a month and, if possible, do a quick cleaning to get any mud or residue off after every ride. Make sure you have the necessary cleaning supplies for your bike on hand and put in that little extra effort to get the most out of your ride.

Now that you have your riding resolutions in mind, it's time to put them into action. Get ready, get set, & GO!
